Turning Ad Hoc Estimates into a Repeatable Process
The Problem
Pricing and scoping were handled ad hoc, without a consistent structure.
Constraints
The format had to work across project sizes and incorporate both development and design concerns.
Approach
I created an estimate template and refined it with the designer as real projects exposed gaps and edge cases.
Outcome
Estimates became faster, more consistent, and cumulative rather than being rebuilt from scratch each time.
Looking Back
The collaborative refinement mattered as much as the original template. Development and design saw different risks, and the estimate became stronger by holding both perspectives.
